Did you know, in the Philippines as part of the celebration of Easter this year they nailed 7 men to crosses?

That's taking it a little to far...in my opinion.Did you know, in the Philippines as part of the celebration of Easter this year they nailed 7 men to crosses?
fools

Some foreigners have previously been crucified including a Belgian nun and a Japanese man, who later allowed footage of his ordeal to be used in a pornographic film.

got that from http://asia.news.yahoo.com/070406/3/2zy3鈥?/a>

foolsDid you know, in the Philippines as part of the celebration of Easter this year they nailed 7 men to crosses?
It is not On Easter that they did it.It is on a Friday before Easter Sunday. Easter is for egg huntng and festivities. Do not worry about those who were nailed. Even if they went too far, at least it is not you they nailed. It is still much better than wrapping bombs in your body and inflicting death and injuries to innocent civilians.
Yes. Native Americans had a similar practice called swinging at the pole. They would hook long cords through the skin of their chests and pull against the cords until they ripped through the flesh. A sort of rite of passage. Filipino society is not long removed from the hunter-gatherer stage.
Yes, it is on the Y! news page.

Bizzarro World eh!

(and none of them were chocolate)
Bunch of whack jobs.
I think there is some old church song with the line ';I want to be like Jesus'; Don't think thats what the song is about though.
They do this every year, as part of their celebration of the Crucifixion...
How about a link to this info.

Crazy philipinos
Why did they wanna do that.....
I agree. It is rather barbaric. No where in the Bible are we told to do this.
i don't know why people hurt them self..in the bible there is no scripture that tells to hurt our self.

How long before PETA starts nailing McDonald's workers to crosses?

Crosses are made of wood, generated from murdering trees, which must be evil to most PETA members and staff. How long before PETA starts nailing McDonald's workers to crosses?
McDonald's promised PETA that they would get their meat from humane sources, but went back on their word... They are after the corporation, not the employees. How long before PETA starts nailing McDonald's workers to crosses?
First, PETA does not agree with hurting any animals including human ones.

Second, I don't quite get why nailing them to crosses, which is indicative of martyrdom of a pure soul, would apply here???
PETA has complained about McDonald's for years.

Did McDonald's start doing something new?
I got a hammer, and some nails, I'll start now. I'm not with PETA, it just sounds fun.
hopefully tomorrow

A square island is surrounded by a square deep moat (10m wide, 14.5m at corner). Two planks (9.5m long) are available to cross the moat but together they are too short if laid end to end. Whats with the Idea of some religious folk of reenacting christ death by having themselves nailed to crosses?

Do they honestly feel this brings them closer to God?Whats with the Idea of some religious folk of reenacting christ death by having themselves nailed to crosses?
They're dense.

They don't realize he went through more than getting nailed to wood.Whats with the Idea of some religious folk of reenacting christ death by having themselves nailed to crosses?
When they suffer as christ suffered they feel closer to christ. They also wear hair shirts and practice self faggellation. It is a form of masochism.

They are mentally unstable, if they were 14 year old girls cutting themselves, we would get them help.

Sharing christ's pain and damage, known as stigmata, is a long and well established tradition among the saints and the pious.

Most of the Saints and Martyrs would of course be diagnosed with signifigant mental illness issues today.
Sounds like a love for Sado-Masochism. Jesus never referred to anything like that being acceptable or wanted. The only thing Christians are to do is observe the Memorial of his death, The Last Supper or Passover on Nisan 14. BTW Jesus did not die on a cross, he died on a stake (stauros in Greek). Do some research and find out the truth.
I honestly think that they think so- however it doesn't- they probably take the verse- ';take up your cross'; too literally- what the passage is saying is that we are not meant to have an easy life- and that each of us, who are believers in Jesus Christ will be called to suffer- however Jesus is the one that paid the price in full and His death and resurrection is what brings us close to God- not re-enacting His death.
I don't know. But after seeing some of the videos on youtube, I am appalled at all the little children roaming around.

I do realize I am being ethnocentric. The children seem content. But I will not allow my son to view the Passions and he's 11. Maybe next year, assuming I have the fortitude to watch it myself.
Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, no one else has to be nailed to the cross. It would be pointless.
Perhaps they feel this is the ultimate service they can to for Jesus. But, respectfully, I think they got the message wrong and are giving the wrong Christian message to others.

Jesus Christ was not about making people suffer for him. It was about the happiness of following a life of love in obedience to God. What Jesus did was just an example of his love -- a love where he went as far as death to save us. Not because he wanted to enjoy pain and set the example for others to enjoy pain too.

On one occasion when Jesus was teaching the crowd a woman called out saying that it must have been happy for the woman who went through the pain of childbirth of having him and raising him from a baby. Jesus corrected her by saying ...

Luke 11:27 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, ';Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.'; 28 He replied, ';Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.';
purity through suffering. this is a bit extreme, but the theme is pervasive in many religions.
Their love to Jesus is counted.
well in a way it does. we as Christians believe that the cross is something to celebrate. because if it were not for his death then ,then the world would not be where it is today,........
Jesus had a purpose to die such a horrible death. He redeemed mankind once for all time.

By man repeating the death of Christ minimizes the sacrifice Jesus made for us. It is as though anyone could have done it so what's the big deal?
It reinforces their conditioning.
IMHO, they do so in believing that reenactment of Christ's death is an act of contrition and penance. They do so to lift up the burden of guilt they may feel or as an action to fulfill their vow to God.

I personally believe that having ourselves nailed to crosses are not necessary to draw close to God. Crucifixion is an act of salvation finished by Jesus Christ.

God provided us his Son to get closer to Him and his Word that helps us to know him more and understand his will. There is also the privilege of prayer - our open line to God. God won't require us more than what we can bear. :)
Because we are all insane to a certain degree. Some are much more insane than others.
Yes, they do feel that.

They feel that re enacting Christ's passion shows their devotion to their faith.

I applaud them for that. Far too many Christians don't take their Religion seriously. It's good to see that Christians are as good as their word and will accept Christ's fate, rather than simply talk about how morally superior they are to everyone else ';because of what Christ did';.

Talk is the last refuge of the coward, too cowardly to Actually commit to a Christian life.
  • cosmetics
  • Should Christians have themselves nailed to crosses to prove their devotion to their belief?

    Like these Filipinos

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/ar鈥?/a>

    Crazy or what.

Would you though to prove your devotion? After all you say you would do anything to please your god.Should Christians have themselves nailed to crosses to prove their devotion to their belief?
I'm gonna go get a hammer and help some of em get a little more devoted!Should Christians have themselves nailed to crosses to prove their devotion to their belief?
No, they ought not to do that.

You must really hate us if you are advocating that we all nail ourselves on a cross to show devotion.

Jesus did that so we would not have to go through it.

Have a good day. Sorry to disappoint you, but I won't do that.

I don't need to. God knows I love Him. He does not ask me to prove it.
No. Christ did that so we don't have to. Jesus said, If you love me, keep my commandments. The best way to prove our devotion to him is to follow his teachings.
That sort of display is idolatrous and a vestige of pagan orgiastic practices. It is not appropriate at all for Christians. It is excessive.
i what to ask u a question how would u feel if one of your dearest friends was executed on the basis of false charges would you make a replica of the instrument of execution would you cherish it or would you shun it so in the same way we shouldn't wear objects around our neck to remind us about jc
It does amaze me how far they go, I am still shocked that so many of them on these boards hold so much hate for gay folks, in the year 2008. For followers of peace loving Jesus, its beyond words what festering notions they subscribe to.

Sorry Guys but they are Christians, just like you, they believe in JC, just like you, they are under the same religious flag as you. Or is it, real Christians versus non real Christians now?

How does that work? More exclusion based upon people not believing in what you do?
If they did this they would be not doing anything that would please God. Jesus Christ sacrafice for us was done once for all time. We only need to excersise faith in that sacrafice. John 3:16 And we do this by how we live our lives and treat others, not by making a crazy display of things that would attract attention to ourselves, not Christ. Matthew 6th chapter
only if he wants us to.
Jesus! That's awful God wouldn't be happy at all with what these people are doing to themselves
This is a good question and I will try my best to give you my views on it.

    Let's look for a moment at the 1997 movie - The 7th Sign that starred Demi Moore. The base of the movie is that the seals described in Revelations have been broken and the prophecies have begun and only one woman (Demi Moore) can stop the end coming to our world. She is repeatedly asked throughout the movie - ';Would you die for me?';

    While that is a Hollywood based movie, the question itself is interesting - ';Would you die for me?';

There are areas in the world where they do reenact the crucifixion of Jesus as a show of faith; however it is not a fatal crucifixion. Rather, they use it as a way to show God that they would go to death for Jesus. If you do enough web searching, you'll even find one man who vowed to be crucified every year for 15 years if God allowed his wife to come through a difficult child birth.

Your question was would we do this also to show our faith to the Lord.

Personally, I have a strong walk with the Lord, I live my life to the very best that I can possibly live it to on a daily basis with the Lord. Am I going to make mistakes along the way? Certainly... I'm human and all humans make mistakes. However, do I need to be nailed to a cross to show the Lord my faith in Him and devotion to Him? That answer would be no.

Jesus died on the cross for all of mankind - God loved us so much that he sacrificed His own Son for the sins of the world and that if anyone believed in Him, would have everlasting life and not die. Obviously our physical body will die but God was referring to our souls to live on. The Bible tells about how our bodies are merely a temple to carry the soul and that we should not defile it in any way.

In my eyes, there is no reason that anyone should have to be nailed to a cross to show their devotion to God. It's a radical move of extremisms and allowing superstitions to intercede with a message for all of us that God gave..... Believe in my Son and you shall not die. To believe in my Son is to believe in God.

Living here in this physical form, we face persecution each and every day by someone. It could be a stranger, a family member, a co-worker, etc. Regardless, it is up to each of us to live the way Christ would want us to live and to carry that way of life through every aspect of our lives... not just on a Sunday.

Those who have believed in the one God of heaven and earth have continually been persecuted by rulers and kings since time began. However, when we speak of early Christian persecution, we are referring to the time following Jesus Christ's suffering and persecution for His Church - His death on the cross. He paid the price for all of our sins, He was spat upon, beaten beyond recognition, humiliated, and finally nailed to a cross like a hardened criminal until He died. After three days, He rose again and even now, He lives and is the right hand of God the Father where He rules and reigns with Him.

Early Christians who were persecuted for Christ:

    * James the Great, the elder brother of John the Apostle, was beheaded in A.D. 44.

    * Philip, who served in Upper Asia was scourged in Phrygia, thrown into prison and later crucified (A.D. 54).

    * Matthew the tax collector served the Lord in Parthia and Ethiopia where he was slain with a halberd (a shafted weapon with an axe-like cutting blade and a speared end) in the city of Nadabah, A.D. 60.

    * James the Less, the brother of the Lord, served the church in Jerusalem and wrote the book of James. He suffered martyrdom at the age of ninety-four by being beaten and stoned by the Jews.

    * Matthias, the man who was chosen to replace Judas as an apostle, was stoned at Jerusalem and then beheaded.

    * Andrew, the brother of Peter, preached the gospel to many Asiatic nations and was crucified on a cross at Edessa. The ends of his cross were fixed transversely in the ground, thus the derivation of the term, St. Andrew's cross.

    * Mark was converted to Christianity by Peter and served as amanuensis (he wrote for Peter). He was dragged to pieces by the people of Alexandria.

    * Peter, the apostle, was sought by Nero to be put to death. Jerome wrote that Peter was crucified with his head down and his feet up, because he thought himself unworthy to be crucified in the same form and manner as the Lord.

    * Paul was really persecuted several times. He was scourged, stoned, and finally, Nero had him beheaded by a sword.

    * Jude, the brother of James, commonly called Thaddeus, was crucified at Edessa in A.D. 72.

    * Bartholomew preached in several countries and translated the Gospel of Matthew into the language of India. He was cruelly beaten and then crucified by in patient idolaters.

    * Thomas, doubting Thomas, preached the Gospel in Parthia and India. He excited the rage of the pagan priests and was martyred by being thrust through with a spear.

    * Luke the author of Luke and Acts travelled with Paul through various countries and was suppose to have been hanged on and olive tree by the idolatrous priests of Greece.

    * Simon the Zealot preached the Gospel in Mauritania, Africa, and even Britain where he was crucified in A.D. 74.

    * John, the Apostle whom Jesus loved, was sent from Ephesus to Rome where he was put into a cauldron of boiling oil. He escaped by a miracle, without injury, but was then banished to the Isle of Patmos and there he wrote the book of Revelations. Nerva, Domitian's successor, said he was the only apostle who escaped a violent death.

What it boils down to is - Do you believe in God? Do you accept Jesus as your Saviour? Do you choose to change your life to walk and breathe what Jesus taught? Do you choose to grow with God spiritually and not just on a religious plane?

We are all listed in the Book of Life. When our physical bodies die and we go home to God, we will stand before Him at that time as he reads our page in that Book of Life. What each person needs to think about is, where do we stand with God and have we tried to right the wrongs of our worldly stay and accepted Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior believing that Jesus died for all of our sins and the only requirement to everlasting life is simply to believe in Jesus and ask His forgiveness.

Is there a necessity for being nailed to the cross to prove to God how you feel? No. Showing God what you believe and how you feel about Him is proven by how we walk through our lives while here on earth.

Sorry for being so lengthy... I just wanted to help you understand.

God Bless and have a wonderful day.
Most Christians know that where it says to take up your cross and follow me was not meant to be taken literally. These poor deluded people were convinced that if they did this it would be pleasing to God and/or they just wanted to die in the same manner as Christ so as to experience his agony. They are so wrong. This is just another example of how Christianity has been twisted and distorted from its original meaning.
A 15 Years old kid!!!??? Wow... who said that BDSM is illegal in the Filipines???
Why is it so upsetting for you christians to see a display of self immolation?

ISNT THIS FILLIPINO FOLLOWING EXACTLY YOUR OWN SELF HARMING GOD?

how can you recognise one as idolatry and the other as an act of supreme love?
YES That would be awesome, send all the christians to ';heaven'; and it will be one less thing to fight over, seriously all they do is try and convert people so, us atheist wont ***** about that anymore.
No. Jesus does not ask us to do that. He already did that for us.
Absolutely not, because Jesus already sacrificed his life and died for us. No more blood needs be shed. We are redeemed. Bible says that God doesn't want sacrifice, but a contrite heart. Besides there are many other ways we can show and prove our devotion to God.
    No.

Like the Jews and the Muslims, Christians believe that devotion is not proven by a single act or deed, but by the sum total of one's life.

Displays such as having oneself nailed to a cross in a procession prove nothing about one's devotion - except that they create a spectacle.

Christians - So, Jesus nailed that bad old law to the cross?

Are you sure that it was not the penalty for breaking the law that was nailed to the cross?

Here, take another look. Now, tell me which Commandment is bad for us to obey or that we should not obey?

    1. You shall not worship any other God

    2. You shall not make a graven image.

    3. You shall not take the name of God in vain.

    4. Remember to keep the Sabbath

    5. You shall not dishonor your parents.

    6. You shall not murder.

    7. You shall not commit adultery

    8. You shall not steal.

    9. You shall not lie.

    10. You shall not covet.Christians - So, Jesus nailed that bad old law to the cross?
Of course it was the penalty for not being able to keep them, not the laws themselves. The laws are good. They are perfect and show us how God wants us to live.

    Anyone who thinks that Jesus died so that we can break God's commands and not worry ';cuz its under the blood'; should read Rom. 8:1-4. Before I read it, let me remind us of a biblical definition of sin: (1 Jn. 3:4) Everyone who commits sin, also breaks the law; sin IS the breaking of law.';

Rom. 8:1,2:';Therefore no condemnation now exists for those in Christ Jesus because the spirit's law of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.'; (We were previously under the law of sin and death. What law is that? Is Paul calling God's moral laws the law of sin and death. No, the law of sin and death means ';the absolute truth that if we continue in sin it leads to death.'; So in Christ Jesus we are set free from a life of sinning that leads to death. What set us free from this way of living? Another law - the truth that as we live IN CHRIST JESUS, following his spirit (in contrast to living in our flesh following our own desires) he will lead us away from sin (which is law breaking) and death and will lead us into life.

Continuing, Rom 8:3:';What the law could not do since it was limited by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending his own Son in flesh like ours under sin's domain, and as a sin offering.....'; (The law could never produce righteousness in us since we were dead, living in our sinful flesh. Now notice the result of Jesus' sin offering in the next verse)

Rom. 8:4: (sending his own Son...as a sin offering) ';in order that the law's requirement WOULD BE ACCOMPLISHED IN US (or fulfilled in us) who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.'; (Did that just say that God sent his Son to be a sin offering for us so that we no longer have to be concerned about obeying His laws? This is what many many Christians seem to believe. But read it again: so that THE LAW'S REQUIREMENTS MIGHT BE FULFILLED, or ACCOMPLISHED IN US (who are no longer living in our sinful flesh that could never ever keep God's laws, but now living in Christ Jesus as He leads us into all his ways as we listen to His Spirit who lives within us)!!!!Christians - So, Jesus nailed that bad old law to the cross?
It was the penalty of sin that was death nailed to the cross. That's why we are no longer under the law of sin and death but under the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus.

All the laws and the prophet are fulfilled in one commandment that is, Love God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself.

If you are in Jesus and the Spirit of Christ is in you you will be doing this new commandment automatically because it is written in your heart.
If you need to follow the law, then that is the evidence that you have sin. There is no law against the things of the spirt. You don't need the law if you serve Christ with your mind, because when you are in Him, there is only perfection and He has fulfilled the just requirements of the law, once and for all. Christ is all that the law was meant to make a man.
Where do you get the idea that the Ten Commandments were nailed to the cross???

The Ten Commandments are carved in stone by the hand of God to stand for all time ';as contract between God and man in the walk of salvation';...if you love me keep my commandments.....

The sacrificial laws/ what went on in the temple for thousand of years, the sacrificial lamb....that whole system of sacrifice and atonement was nailed to the cross because Christ is the sacrificial lamb....

    need a good Bible study....asap...

and some people seem to think that the dietary and health laws, where nailed to the cross also....

it was a cross of salvation not a clothes line of this and and that...pork chops and shell fish where not made clean by the cross.....
jesus nailed the thought to be justified in the eyes of God I have to keep every single precept of the mosaic law. That includes circumcision and going to every feast and to go to every holy sabbath, to offer every sacrifice required under the law.

we are not justified by doing every commandment of the law.

we are justified by faith in jesus.

Tit 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Gal 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Gal 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Gal 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
You are quite correct, which is why the catholic church(es)-- to include the orthodox catholics-- the anglicans, and a majority of protestants recognize that what Jesus came to abolish were the laws of man which had been added by the Sanhedron, and not the laws of God which are very much still in effect.

Ultimately, however, the new covenant is different from the old covenant. The commandments fall outside of that, but the dietary restrictions are no longer required under the new covenant (this is not to say that old covenant peoples, such as the Jews, are NOT to follow their covenant, which is still valid but fulfilled, but rather that those particular restrictions are not required for those who have accepted the new covenant).
Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven
This is what the Scripture tells us:

    Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

    Addition: ****************************************鈥?br>

The ';penalty for sins' was paid for at the Cross, but the law, by which we would have never KNOWN sin (Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.), was NAILED there as well. That is what the verse SAYS, and is what it means.

Those handwritten ordinances were none other than the ten commandments. God says He took it out of the way, nailing it to the Cross.

    The purpose of the law was NEVER to make a man righteous, but to show man his inability to meet Gods standard of 100% sin free from the cradle to the grave based on performance. We are made right with God thru trusting Christs performance on the Cross, and NOT our own performance which has already been found ';wanting.';

NO man will ever be justified by obeying the law, or the ten commandments. Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

The ten commandments is NOT the rule of life that we are to be living by today. It was given to the Nation of Israel to prove a point.

We are to live by faith in what God has said is the ONLY way to be reconciled to Him, and its by the Crosswork of Christ, NOT by obeying any commandments.

    http://www.graceteacher.com
i really do notunderstand what you are asking. we are to follow all of them. i cannot identify the one you arent supposed to follow because there isnt one. what are you asking exactly?
it was just a fairy tale story. It didn't even happen

about me and my Atheist music

    http://www.myspace.com/charliecheckm
i think your partly right .. the law is meant to be followed .. Jesus said He didnt come to do away with it .. and i think that thing that you allow, well, your missing out on some blessing because of it ..
well if you are a christian then surely you shud obey all of them!?

use your f*kin brain please! IT IS THERE FOR A REASON!

they are there to be followed! thats why god said them!

    pick me for best answer
The laws are still in effect.....Jesus died as the sacrifice because we are always breaking them.
    huh?

Christ did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. Other than that, no comprende.
WHEN YOUR BURNING IN HELL YOULL REALIZE!
... do you know the difference between MOSES and JESUS?
Or.... we could try not getting our Bible stories mixed up.
Why do you think that Jesus was whipped or flogged by his fellow Jews and then turned over to the Romans to die in humility?

Was he not the One who said not even the least stroke of pen shall by any means stricken out of the law? If he said that, what authority does he have to nail or change the law?

In the Book of Samuel, God promised David for whoever will take David's throne, God will treat him like a Son and He will be his Father, not only because he is David's son whom He treated that way but if God sees that he who inherited David's kingship will not obey His laws, he will be flogged by his own men.*

Note: * Those were not the exact words but the meaning is right on target. See 2 Samuel 7:14-15 on that promise.
the penalty for sin or breaking the law is death. when Jesus died, death was taken away but only if you believed that Jesus was the Son of God and had faith in Christ and repented or ask God to change you.

Jesus is now God the Son. Jesus has been since the foundations of the earth so who do you think moses was talking to on the mount? the word God is a title not a name and now there is God the Father and God the Son. there can be many gods for if you put someone or something in your life above all else it is your god. by the way the word Elohim is a plural of God or Gods. a title. Jesus was without sin and sacrificed everything so all could be saved from death and then was given all authority over heaven and earth by His Father.

we should not make images that represent God or evil

we should not say we know Jesus if we do not for then you have taken His name and made it useless in your life

sabbath means to rest and now Jesus is my rest or sabbath and i keep Jesus my rest in my heart.

the rest are under do unto others as you would have others do unto you

so we should keep all ten but that is impossible so Jesus took my penalty from me.

    Peace!!
The penalty, the handwriting against us %26amp; the curse of the law is what

was nailed to the cross NOT the Torah/Law %26amp; 10 Commandments.

The Law is good just %26amp; right.

Read Deuteronomy 28:15-68 to get an idea of what was the curse of

not keeping the Law, the penalty %26amp; handwriting against us.

ALL 10 are to be obeyed, including the SABBATH DAY!

Was Jesus tied on to cross with a rope before he was nailed?

Think, if the average weight of a person is 160 lb then even 8 nails hit to limbs of a man cannot hold a body in position. I think at least 2 nails need to be hit in the Abdomen area. Please explain the exact position of the nails. I think it cannot be held with nails alone.

Also when blood touches the nail on its way into the wood it looses its friction capacity. Was Jesus tied on to cross with a rope before he was nailed?
Many modern depictions of the Crucifixion show the arms supported by ropes. The nails were probably a way to cause pain and bleeding, since the real struggle here is against asphyxiation. Was Jesus tied on to cross with a rope before he was nailed?
In order to support the weight of the body , nails would have to have been driven through just above the wrists between the two bones in the forearm (the radius and the ulna) or through the actual wrists betwen the four carpal bones. The greek word used for hands in the scriptures would often refer to anything below the mid-forearm, such as in Acts 12:7 when it refers to chains falling off of Peter's hands, but the chains in order to bind Peter would have been around Peter's wrists.
The Passion of the Christ is absolute truth regarding the method of Jesus' crucifixion. Mel Gibson was there. That was a documentary, shot in real time.
Historically, sometimes people were tied to the crosses. Jesus may have even been tied for some support.

However, these nails weren't little '10-penny nails.' These were more like railroad spikes, with large heads, which would keep a person from sliding off, even when lubricated by blood.

They would have been driven through the wrists, through the carpal tunnel and between the metatarsal bones in the feet. This would have been more than enough to support a man long enough to die. These were strong bone and tendon structures.

(And before anybody says anything about the hands vs. the wrists, the Greek word used applies to everything from the fingertips to the middle of the forearm. Even today, we use handcuffs to secure a prisoner, not 'wrist-cuffs.')
We've been taught (by man) to believe without question. God said that if we lack wisdom ask for it and he would supply it. You are probably right in thinking that the weight would be too great for only nails to hold a body. We've been told that the nails were placed in the palms of the hand and the top of the foot. Some are now saying that the nails may have been in his wrists and ankle areas. We have to accept the answers that we are given but that doesn't mean that we have to believe what we are told. We do need to remember that the nails didn't go through the bone. One of the prophecies was that his bones were not broken!

Some believe that the nails were bradded or bent over once they went through the wood. That would have prevented them from pulling out because of Christ's weight. Then again...It wasn't God's will that He fall from the cross. If he could have called legions of angles to take him from the cross then straight pins could have held him there if he had willed it.
jesus was severely beaten before he was tied to the cross.he became very weak while he was going to golgotha.so his body weight decreased very fast.so, since he lost most of his blood,it is given in the bible that water also stated to come from his abdomen when striked with a spear....this gives the explanation to your question....nice curiosity..........
I think you're forgetting that these nails were probably more like big wooden spikes.
He was supposed to be standing on a plank on the cross from what I understand. Either way, it is certainly not a good way to die.
    this sounds like s%26amp;m activity.

i don't know what and how they did it. i can't see how hands can hold the weight even if they're tied up real good.

i figured they used the wrists now those can hold body weight.

but then again there's experts..... i suppose who were there to eyewitness it.
Jesus came as the Second Adam, so this sort of macabre detail may not be worth knowing. John the Baptist could not even follow him as a faithless Israel acted on their doubt that he was who he said he was. Think about what will be done to him upon the promised return - many will be curious about such detail. Perhaps we have not actually left the Dark Ages at all.
    no, but his feet were
I was not there but the Cross was not as it is pictured either. But I imagine they might have been tied before the nailing. That's what I would do if I wanted them to be still, long enough to drive a Nail in the.'; WOW'; that would hurt.
The nails (which were the size of railroad stakes) were pierced into his wrists (just below the palm) and his arms stretched out. The third nail was pierced into his feet (just above the heel). The nails in his arms would have been sufficient enough to hold his weight and keep him in place.

So Jesus was not tied to the cross with rope.
he was tied to it at the wrists and ankles. I do not know if this was before or after the nails, but it was before the cross was raised into an upright position.

nails alone (or big spikes) would tear through the skin.
No. At least the Scripture gives no account of Him being tied down. The spikes were driven through each wrist because driving it into the hands wouldn't support His weight once the Cross was dropped into the ground. The spikes would rip right through the tendons and he would've fallen off. The other spike was driven into a block of wood nailed to the Cross beneath His feet which were placed one on top of the other so that BOTH feet would be anchored to this block of wood by this huge spike. This way when his body weight began to sag and make it hard to breathe, he would have to strain in agony against that block to push Himself up long enough to take a breath. These weren't 16 penny nails they were using; these were long iron spikes designed for such a task.
    nope,no idea.
    Nah, they used Velcro.
It's a made up story as part of a fairy tale.

However,, if any part of it were true, rope would have needed to be used.
    nope
he was nailed with huge nails not normal that u use to stick two wood together. the nails that they use where a little bigger then wine cork. they nailed his two hands and the feet together on another wood( the wood is around 50 digress, that will hold Ur feet) witch is attached to the cross nailed too. well some say he was tied and some say he was held by guards

    its ain't a pretty sign :(

How long before PETA starts nailing McDonald's workers to crosses?

It depends, what day is today?

Are there any parts left of the cross that Jesus died on? or of the nails?

in what museum can i see them? Are there any parts left of the cross that Jesus died on? or of the nails?
There are enough bits-and-pieces of the ';true cross'; scattered all over the world to build a house! Are there any parts left of the cross that Jesus died on? or of the nails?
Jesus did not die on a cross. He died on a torture stake. In the Bible the Greek word usually rendered cross is stauros. Its Latin equivalent is crux. Was the stauros or crux on which Christ died a traditionally shaped cross?

The Encyclopædia Britannica, 1907 and 1942 editions, under the term “cross” states that Christ is “generally believed” to have died on such a cross, that at best it is only “by general tradition” that the matter is established.

And concerning the terms stauros and crux we are told that ‘stauros properly means merely a stake.’ “In Livy [Roman historian shortly before Christ’s ministry] even, crux means a mere stake.” “The Hebrews have no word for Cross more definite than ‘wood.’”3

The bible repeatedly tells of his dying on a tree, the Greek word being xylon. (See Luke 23:31; Acts 5:30;10:39.) Xylon simply means “timber,” and “by implication a stick, club or tree or other wooden article or substance.”5 That is why the Gospel writers all use xylon to refer to the staves or clubs that the mob carried when they came to take Jesus. (See Matthew 26:47, 55; Mark 14:43, 48; Luke 22:52.) By saying that Christ died on a xylon these indicated that Christ died on a timber, a piece of wood.

“From the most remote antiquity the cross was venerated in Egypt and Syria; it was held in equal honor by the Buddhists of the East; and what is still more extraordinary, when the Spaniards first visited America, the well-known sign was found among the objects of worship in the idol temples of Anáhuac. It is also remarkable that, with the commencement of our era, the pagans were wont to make the sign of the cross upon the forehead in the celebration of some of their sacred mysteries.”

The cross is a pagan symbol
    yep, don't know where
    From Wikipedia:

Pieces of the True Cross, including the half of the INRI inscription tablet, preserved at the ancient basilica Santa Croce in Gerusalemme in Rome. Very small pieces or particles of the True Cross are preserved in hundreds of other churches in Europe.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relics_of_J…

But like most artifacts, these are impossible to prove true or false...ole' Pilate refused to sign a Certificate of Authenticity. I've read other sources that say that these relics are ';TRADITIONALLY thought to have come from the True Cross of Jesus.)
    Christianity? Jesus? Dying?

What is the Imacculate Conception supposed to mean?

(NOT A VIRGIN BIRTH! - betcha never knew that.)

Jesus, the basis of Christianity? .

If Jesus died, he could NOT have been God.

Gods do not die? Do they?

If Jesus 'died' on Friday and 'undied' on Sunday, what else besides Saturday was sacrificed?

Did Jesus give up Saturday for us? Big deal!

If Jesus died for our sins, there should not be any more sins, else why go through with it?.

If Jesus really DIED, he should be dead, dead, dead!

If you swallow this stuff, you are not going to like the folks who don't. You want them to swallow it too.

'Believers' want everyone to convert to their non-thinking.

Believing and not thinking is to choose a mental illness.
this is the sort of thing you could look up for yourself in wikipedia.
Realistically, there are probably no pieces of the cross left. Jesus was crucified by the Romans. The Romans probably reused the crosses because they killed a lot of people on them (they were notorious for being the most ruthless killers), and at the time of the crucifixion, the disciples did not know the significance of the cross, and so, would have no reason to collect the pieces. There may be some places that claim to have pieces of the cross, but in the Middle Ages there was an incredible amount of interest in ';relics,'; and so, there is probably a large number of fakes out there that are being presented as the real thing.

Chazerai, that really is not an answer. Do you realize that what you are saying makes absolutely no sense? And really, I've seen that on about 10 different answers to this point. Get some original material.

Why do you think that Jesus was killed on a cross? And why do they show him as having nails in his hands?

I would like to know where to find the facts of Jesus being killed on a CROSS. And also where does the information come from that lets people put him as being hung by his hands. Why do you think that Jesus was killed on a cross? And why do they show him as having nails in his hands?
one of four gospels mentions nails through the hands. and we have historic records that this was the typical procedure. Of course, nails really had to go through the wrist rather than palm to support body weight. And they used ropes too, nails were more for pain than support.

Leaving people to die in the open is pretty common. They did that in medieval Europe - nailing people to castle walls or putting them out in cages. Why do you think that Jesus was killed on a cross? And why do they show him as having nails in his hands?
read the Bible...first four gospels of the New Testament.
You can read the accounts for yourself in the four gospels in the Bible - Matthew, Mark Luke or John.

It was prophesied that he would be nailed to a tree (Cross).

I will repost with some links for you below in a few minutes

also, when he appeared to his disciples after his death - they couldn't belief it was him. Read this from Luke 24:39:

    37They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38He said to them, ';Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.';

40When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.
    God's Word, the Bible.
Being hung on a cross was the most humiliating punishment for someone back then and was used for the ultimate punishment. It has been proven that crucifixition was not done thru the actual hand or foot, but thru the wrist and ankles because the weight of a human body would be too heavy and the flesh would rip so they would not be able to hang.. In the Bible, in the end times, when the anti christ appears the 666 numbers are said to be on the hand or the forehead. Where Christ was punctured the most. When someone was crucified, it wasnt the actual crucifixion that would kill them, in fact, they would suffocate because they would be unable to breath.. Actually taking days to die... They would have to find strength to push against the nails in thier ankles to lift themselves up to breath. Christ gave up his life. In addition, he was stabbed in the side with a spear which actually was prophesied in the early books of the bible. Man always puts thier spin on things, but the books of Matthew, Mark,Luke and John say it best! My favorite accout being that one in Luke.
Mat 27:40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

Mar 15:32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.

In that time period, the hand included the wrist. So when they put the nails in his wrists, they rightly stated that it was His hands
Christians and their bible no longer hold a monopoly on Jesus. Relatively recent discoveries of very ancient early Christian writings state that Jesus was not crucified at all, and furthermore that he was a human like everyone else and that he performed no miracles. So you now have alternative documents on which to base your studies.
    Dear Grandma,

How I loved my Grandmother, who reared me when my own mother would not.........

Jesus was crucified under the Roman law, which was crucification. He was not the only one to be killed this way. In fact, the Bible tells us He was one of three to be put to death in this fashion on that very day. It was a spectacle, a growd gatherer. I imagine it was much like a ball game or concert today, as far as drawing a crowd........

The importance of the nails being driven through His hands, fulfills the prophecy as told in Isaiah.........no broken bones. In the palms, look and see, there is enough flesh to hold your weight without the breaking of your bones.

IF, IF, it were to happen today, it could be by means of lethal injection, which also would not break His bones. That was simply the method of the time. A guiltine (sp) would break bones, a firing squad might shatter bones, a stoning (also used in that day) could result in broken bones..........

Jesus is God sent to us in the FLESH and He was crucified in the FLESH...not the bones.
it wasn't Jesus who was on the cross. God has saved Jesus soul %26amp; body toward him, and because he didn't die he will return back again at the end of the world and then die .
Crucifixion was the form of execution the Romans used at the time of Jesus' death, much the same as hanging or decapitation was used during British and French periods.

Many pictures showing Jesus hanging from his hands are incorrect as the nail would tear right through. Crucifixion puts the nail through the wrist NOT the hand.
    Crucifiction was the Roman punsihment

and has been recorded through all of roman times

Jesus crucifiction also was and is recorded

and the nails was put in His hands and His feet

    as it was recorded

( not his wrists as some has tried to implicate )

the whole of cricifiction was for one to hang down till they could no longer pull up , thus sufficated slowley is accomplished , and bleeding out as well

the wrist would have allowed a man to be held up , ones hands cause of the many bones and little flesh could not hold him up, thus they died rather quickley , and thats what the Romans wanted suffering yet at a fair pace . And its recorded in His hands and His feet , not His wrists !!

The cross couldnt hold Him , He allowed it to !!!
That was the common way to execute people back in Rome during that time period. Its a very painful and prolonging way to die, pretty much like torture. thats why there were guys on each side of Jesus that were on crosses also.
Jesus was cursed for our sakes.....for it is written: cursed is he that is hanged on a tree.....He took our punishment, our curse for sin. i believe the nails were thru the wrists not necessarily the hands.....nails thru the hands would have broken bones %26amp; would not have held Him there....He was not to have a broken bone......this account of Him being nailed to a cross is located in, (i believe), all four Gospels......Matthew, Mark, Luke, %26amp; John......in the New Testament of The Holy Bible
I distinctly remember hearing once during Mass, the lector reading that Jesus was nailed to 'a tree.' I don't know if that was simply a metaphor for the Roman cross or whether it meant a literal tree.

Presumably, the whole thing about nails in Christ's hands is Biblical. However, any basic knowledge of hand anatomy--just a cursory look at a human skeleton--will show you that a nail would tear right through a palm from the body's weight on the cross. Christ has to have had the nails in his wrists, instead.

As for why Jesus was killed on a cross--it was a common Roman method of execution. They did the same thing to Spartacus and his followers, too.
Jesus was not killed on a cross. The Greek work stau-ros' meant merely an upright stake.

Specifically the word used for what Jesus was nailed to was xy'lon.
Well read the Jesus Papers. It was on the NY times best seller list. The history it gives is pretty rich. If you read it carefully and slowly he defeats his own argument of the possibility that Jesus was not crucified. Stand by for the page numbers...some weak crap man.

Well I can't find the page numbers...let's remember that this was a Roman punishment and that was standard operating procedure. just as it was for the zealots of the time. Some people want to debunk all of that so they don't have to admit that Isaiah 53 was prophecy I guess.
    Did Jesus

    Really Die on a Cross?

THE cross is one of the most recognizable religious symbols known to man. Millions revere it, considering it to be the sacred instrument on which Jesus was put to death. Roman Catholic writer and archaeologist Adolphe-Napoleon Didron stated: “The cross has received a worship similar, if not equal, to that of Christ; this sacred wood is adored almost equally with God Himself.”

Some say that the cross makes them feel closer to God when they pray. Others use it as an amulet, thinking that it protects them from evil. But should Christians use the cross as an object of veneration? Did Jesus really die on a cross? What does the Bible teach on this subject?

    What Does the Cross Symbolize?

Long before the Christian era, crosses were used by the ancient Babylonians as symbols in their worship of the fertility god Tammuz. The use of the cross spread into Egypt, India, Syria, and China. Then, centuries later, the Israelites adulterated their worship of Jehovah with acts of veneration to the false god Tammuz. The Bible refers to this form of worship as a ‘detestable thing.’—Ezekiel 8:13, 14.

The Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John use the Greek word stau·ros′ when referring to the instrument of execution on which Jesus died. (Matthew 27:40; Mark 15:30; Luke 23:26) The word stau·ros′ refers to an upright pole, stake, or post. The book The Non-Christian Cross, by J. D. Parsons, explains: “There is not a single sentence in any of the numerous writings forming the New Testament, which, in the original Greek, bears even indirect evidence to the effect that the stauros used in the case of Jesus was other than an ordinary stauros; much less to the effect that it consisted, not of one piece of timber, but of two pieces nailed together in the form of a cross.”

Some ancient drawings depict the use of a single wooden pole in Roman executions

As recorded at Acts 5:30, the apostle Peter used the word xy′lon, meaning “tree,” as a synonym for stau·ros′, denoting, not a two-beamed cross, but an ordinary piece of upright timber or tree. It was not until about 300 years after Jesus’ death that some professed Christians promoted the idea that Jesus was put to death on a two-beamed cross. However, this view was based on tradition and a misuse of the Greek word stau·ros′. It is noteworthy that some ancient drawings depicting Roman executions feature a single wooden pole or tree.

A more important issue for true Christians should be the propriety of venerating the instrument used to kill Jesus. Whether it was an upright single torture stake, a cross, an arrow, a lance, or a knife, should such an instrument be used in worship?

Suppose a loved one of yours was brutally murdered and the weapon was submitted to the court as evidence. Would you try to gain possession of the murder weapon, take photographs of it, and print many copies for distribution? Would you produce replicas of the weapon in various sizes? Would you then fashion some of them into jewelry? Or would you have these reproductions commercially manufactured and sold to friends and relatives to be venerated? Likely you would be repulsed at the idea! Yet, these very things have been done with the cross!

Besides, the use of the cross in worship is no different from the use of images in worship, a practice condemned in the Bible. (Exodus 20:2-5; Deuteronomy 4:25, 26) The apostle John accurately reflected the teachings of true Christianity when he admonished his fellow Christians with the words: “Guard yourselves from idols.” (1 John 5:21) This they did even when it meant facing death in the Roman arena.

First-century Christians, however, held the sacrificial death of Christ in high esteem. Likewise today, although the instrument used to torture and kill Jesus is not to be worshipped, true Christians commemorate Jesus’ death as the means by which God provides salvation to imperfect humans. (Matthew 20:28) This superlative expression of God’s love will bring untold blessings to lovers of truth, including the prospect of everlasting life.—John 17:3; Revelation 21:3, 4.
One thing, in scripture, after Jesus' resurrection, Thomas, known as Thomas the Doubter, said ';unless I see the nail scars in His hands, and unless I put my hand where He was pierced, I will not believe.'; Jesus showed Thomas the evidence he asked for.

In another place in scripture it talks about being 'cursed if you hang on a tree.' People call it a cross because it was two wooden pieces, one across the other forming a crossing.

    Isaiah in scripture says that ';He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the chastizement for our sins was placed upon Him.';

    John 3:16 ';For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.';
Have you heard of Armageddon (where rulers met who measure their strength in the original Hebrews)?

All prophecies in Revelation unleashing of the vials and wrath took place ?
Because he was arrested and tried under Roman law and they used crucifixion as their form of execution
    PROPHESY-

Psalm 22:16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

    ZECHARIAH 12:10

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they shall look unto Me because they have thrust him through; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first-born.

    PROPHESY FULFILLMENT REPORT:

Jhn 20:24 Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.

Jhn 20:25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it.”

Jhn 20:26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”

Jhn 20:27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

Jhn 20:28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

Jhn 20:29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Note:When the prophesy was made, crucifixion was NOT a common form of punishment. Crucifixion came during Roman captivity of Israel, because it was a Roman form of punishment.

Mar 15:20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

Mar 15:21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.

Mar 15:22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.

Mar 15:23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received [it] not.

Mar 15:24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.

Mar 15:25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

Mar 15:26 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Mar 15:27 And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

Mar 15:28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

Mar 15:29 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest [it] in three days,

Mar 15:30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross.

Mar 15:31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.

Mar 15:32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.

Mar 15:33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

Mar 15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Mar 15:35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard [it], said, Behold, he calleth Elias.

Mar 15:36 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put [it] on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.

Mar 15:37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

Mar 15:38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

Mar 15:39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

By the way, the entire 22nd Psalm is very prophetic --the following is the Jewish Publication Society version:

    1

For the Leader; upon Aijeleth ha-Shahar. A Psalm of David.

2 My G-d, my G-d, why hast Thou forsaken me, and art far from my help at the words of my cry?

3 O my G-d, I call by day, but Thou answerest not; and at night, and there is no surcease for me.

4 Yet Thou art holy, O Thou that art enthroned upon the praises of Israel.

5 In Thee did our fathers trust; they trusted, and Thou didst deliver them.

6 Unto Thee they cried, and escaped; in Thee did they trust, and were not ashamed.

7 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

8 All they that see me laugh me to scorn; they shoot out the lip, they shake the head:

9 'Let him commit himself unto HaShem! let Him rescue him; let Him deliver him, seeing He delighteth in him.'

10 For Thou art He that took me out of the womb; Thou madest me trust when I was upon my mother's breasts.

11 Upon Thee I have been cast from my birth; Thou art my G-d from my mother's womb.

12 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.

13 Many bulls have encompassed me; strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

14 They open wide their mouth against me, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

15 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is become like wax; it is melted in mine inmost parts.

16 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my throat; and Thou layest me in the dust of death.

17 For dogs have encompassed me; a company of evil-doers have inclosed me; like a lion, they are at my hands and my feet.

18 I may count all my bones; they look and gloat over me.

19 They part my garments among them, and for my vesture do they cast lots.

20 But Thou, O HaShem, be not far off; O Thou my strength, hasten to help me.

21 Deliver my soul from the sword; mine only one from the power of the dog.

22 Save me from the lion's mouth; yea, from the horns of the wild-oxen do Thou answer me.

23 I will declare Thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation will I praise Thee.

24 'Ye that fear HaShem, praise Him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify Him; and stand in awe of Him, all ye the seed of Israel.

25 For He hath not despised nor abhorred the lowliness of the poor; neither hath He hid His face from him; but when he cried unto Him, He heard.'

26 From Thee cometh my praise in the great congregation; I will pay my vows before them that fear Him.

27 Let the humble eat and be satisfied; let them praise HaShem that seek after Him; may your heart be quickened for ever!

28 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto HaShem; and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before Thee.

29 For the kingdom is HaShem'S; and He is the ruler over the nations.

30 All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and worship; all they that go down to the dust shall kneel before Him, even he that cannot keep his soul alive.

31 A seed shall serve him; it shall be told of the L-rd unto the next generation.

32 They shall come and shall declare His righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that He hath done it.
Well, it says all that in the Bible, but that's probably not the answer you're looking for so I'll tell you a different one too. Crucifixion was a common way to kill people back in the day... it was like the death penalty of the Roman Culture. And they crucified people on crosses.
Many other people in that time period were known to be nailed to a cross. It was the common way to kill someone back then. That was their death penalty.
Jesus (god), had to sacrifice himself to himself (god), so that he could correct a problem of his own doing and not have to torture everybody that he (god) created.
I don't know, but if he was to return to Earth, as some people think will happen, he is going to be mighty pissed off about being remembered as being nailed to a cross, I can tell you that much.

Why would any religion want people to always see their deity on death and not life?

Because they want to make you believe that you have to pay for your ancestors sins and buy into their ****, and keep people in line, which was the reason why organized religion was created. That and money! If there was an all-mighty god, couldn't he create a bank account large enough to not have to steal it from people who need it?

The reason Jesus was ';killed'; on a cross was because of that... Jesus probably never actually existed not to mention if he did the story was all wrong, and was just a poster boy created by the Christians to gain followers of their religion.

Sounds like S %26amp; M.Would you be willing to wear a thorn crown, be whipped and carry a heavy cross that you'll be nailed to?
No. There would be no reason for me to have to do that. Jesus was sinless. Therefore, He had the ability to become the sacrifice for you and me. He is God. I am not.
No I would not. Fortunately nothing depends on me. Jesus already paid the price.
I don't think ';he'; was willing...I wouldn't be willing either...
It would be o so hard--but how awesome it is that HE was willing
If God told me to I would do my best. And if it was his will I believe that I would be able to do it.
Here, in my country, some people do tht yearly as a sign of their faith.

Penetensya. They flog themselves, nail themselves to a cross, and basically do what Jesus had to do.
Why would you think he was willing.
No Im only human, Im to chicken, Im a coward, Im a sinner.

Thank you Jesus for doing it for all of us!

If Jesus was around today would they have used ';No more nails'; when securing him to the cross?

Actually no. If he was around today he would be recognized and proven as a fraud, but would live on as a legend in the minds of people who read the National Enquirer.

He would be right up there with Elvis, bigfoot and crop circles. And some suckers would still believe arguing that scientists faked the film that shows him up to his neck when he tried to walk on water.

Sigh, people have always been so gullible. If Jesus was around today would they have used ';No more nails'; when securing him to the cross?
You are not funny. If Jesus was around today would they have used ';No more nails'; when securing him to the cross?
That wont happen cause what he did 2000 years ago he wont do it again.
    no. probably velcro.
I know this is not what you want to read, but this is why God let His son be crucified on the cross:

';But he was pierced for our rebellion,

    crushed for our sins.

He was beaten so we could be whole.

He was whipped so we could be healed.

All of us, like sheep, have strayed away.

We have left God鈥檚 paths to follow our own.

Yet the Lord laid on him

    the sins of us all.

He was oppressed and treated harshly,

yet he never said a word.

He was led like a lamb to the slaughter.

And as a sheep is silent before the shearers,

he did not open his mouth.

    Unjustly condemned,

    he was led away.

No one cared that he died without descendants,

that his life was cut short in midstream.

    But he was struck down

for the rebellion of my people.

    He had done no wrong

    and had never deceived anyone.

    But he was buried like a criminal;

he was put in a rich man鈥檚 grave.

But it was the Lord鈥檚 good plan to crush him

    and cause him grief.

Yet when his life is made an offering for sin,

    he will have many descendants.

He will enjoy a long life,

and the Lord鈥檚 good plan will prosper in his hands.

When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish,

    he will be satisfied.

    And because of his experience,

my righteous servant will make it possible

for many to be counted righteous,

for he will bear all their sins.

I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier,

because he exposed himself to death.

He was counted among the rebels.

    He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.';

Mr Darcy, have a good Easter and remember that Jesus died for you so that you may have life and have it in abundance for all eternity!
Now now Mr Darcy. You're not the Messiah, you're a very naughty boy!

I can just picture it, maybe it could be a scene in a remake of The Life of Brian. Don't lose your sense of humour. If there is a god then I'm sure he/she would find it very funny indeed.
Slate Jesus for him sacraficing his life...I bet you will still be scoffing those easter eggs though!
    He is this time.
impossible i know, but if he was,he would just be another vicar or priest in a church bible bashing.
I doubt it. It didn't even even hold my curtain rail up. Nails still work best.
xD And it would be the christians crucifying him if he was around today...
You are a very naughty boy Mr Darcy and shall be punished accordingly.

Do you like my new avatar- i just didnt think the old one looked like me enough?
screw or unscrew would be the question then ..the blasted tube!!
Hey, that's good. I'd never thought of that.
oh you are gonna get shot for this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus death is not something to joke about!
May I suggest you spend this Eastertide on your knees in repentance.

Jesus Christ took upon Himself the sins of man since the world began, then and only then did He allow Himself to be tortured by the Roman soldiers and subsequently executed by death on the cross.

Your knowledge of anatomy and physics is sadly lacking - the alternative to nails as you suggest would have not done the job. This is of no consequence however when considering the ultimate sacrifice of the Atonement.

May I also suggest you read the accounts of Luke and Mark on this issue assuming you are in possession of a Bible.

Oh! And by the way, I don't bear my testimony just to get loads of disillusioned thumbs down!
    Dumb question, not cute.
Not funny, the pain that Jesus endured was for you and me and we should all give him the thanks that he deserves .

No. You would need a death to mohammad t-shirt too.

What did they write on Jesus's grave stone,.. '; nailed to death '; or just put up a blank cross?

Get off the cross! We need to wood. What did they write on Jesus's grave stone,.. '; nailed to death '; or just put up a blank cross?
He's not supposed to have one...the story says He ascended bodily into Heaven...if you're talking about the tomb the put him in before the Resurrection story takes place, I doubt they marked it at all....after all, the way He was discovered ';gone'; was by the women who came to annoint the body. What did they write on Jesus's grave stone,.. '; nailed to death '; or just put up a blank cross?
No need for a gravestone....it was a borrowed tomb anyway. I doubt they had the time to get a stone errected. It was only three days and Jesus was ressurected. It look like 4 weeks for them to get my Grandmother's stone to her grave site and we are talking about modern times here. LOL.
Nothing on the stone, because there wasn't time. He wasn't in there long enough.

The stone was sealed and guarded.

    But, on the cross upon which he was crucified, they nailed a sign that read ';Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.';
What will they put on yours?

';Born uneducated, lived uneducated, died finally educated,'; of course!

Jesus was buried in a tomb, and nothing was written on the BOULDER that blocked it.

    There, now you're finally educated.

    ~Hyuu
Obviously you are ignorant of the burial customs of the Jews of the time. You realize what a fool you look like I hope.

Now go mop up that drool before someone slips and has an accident.

    drink
If you had bothered to read the story you would know better than that. He was laid to rest in a tomb that was borrowed for the purpose, NOT buried like we are today.
It probably said Joseph of Arimathea which is why his followers couldn't find his body when they checked the cemetery.
He didn't stay in the grave long enough to have something engraved
Jesus of Nazareth, King of Jews. This is what they placed on His Cross. I don't think there was anything noted on His tomb. God Bless...
I am not a christian but I am pretty sure making jokes about people who were tortured to death is not that cool... just a thought
    it said something like: ';God forgive the insensitive and rude, for they know not that they are ignernt';
He was in a Borrowed Tomb!! (Up on His cross they did put ';Jesus Christ, King of The Jews '; though.)
    Jew on a stick.
that is not mentioned in the Bible.
    Jesus cross was not blank. It said, ';INRI';

So instead of the cross...Why do you think that 'nails' were not chosen as the religious symbol?

the carpentry industry had more money to set up their campain. So instead of the cross...Why do you think that 'nails' were not chosen as the religious symbol?
The cruciform shape was already well established as a magic / religious symbol, so the nascent christian cult found it easy to adopt. So instead of the cross...Why do you think that 'nails' were not chosen as the religious symbol?
I read once, that a gypsy stole one of the nails, the one that was meant to go through his heart. When he came back, he found the gypsy, and blessed him saying, ';You, and your generations can steal all you want, for doing me this mercy';. This gospel was never cannonized, for obvious reasons....
Nails weren't exactly the most noticable part of it. But i guess on a crucifix, the nails are still on.
We should all rejoice at the recent survey carried out by the University of Manchester which clearly shows that christianity is fast becoming an obsolete religion.

Christianity has had only one purpose in the UK and that is to provide a platform for paedophiles to practice their vile acts on little children:

Shocking Knowledge - Muslims Believe in the Bible?

One day in the Spring of 1991, I came to know that the Muslims believed in the Bible. I was shocked. How could this be? But that’s not all, they believe in Jesus as:

    * A true messenger of God;

    * Prophet of God;

    * Miracle birth without human intervention;

    * He was the ‘Christ’ or Messiah as predicted in the Bible;

    * He is with God now and most important;

    * He will be coming back in the Last Days to lead the believers against the ‘Antichrist.’

After “winning souls to the Lord for Jesus” day after day, this would be a big achievement for me, to catch one of these ‘Moslems’ and ‘convert’ him to Christianity.

Cup of Tea - Discuss Beliefs

I asked him if he liked tea and he said he did. So off we went to a little shop in the mall to sit and talk about my favorite subject: Beliefs. While we sat in that little coffee shop for hours talking (I did most of the talking) I came to know that he was very nice, quiet and even a bit shy. He listened attentively to every word that I had to say and did not interrupt even one time. I liked this man’s way and thought that he had definite potential to become a good Christian. - Little did I know the course of events about to unravel in front of my eyes.

    Agreed to Do Business

First of all, I agreed with my father that we should do business with this man and even encouraged the idea of him traveling along with me on my business trips across the northern part of Texas. Day after day, we would ride together and discuss various issues pertaining to different beliefs that people have. And along the way, I could of course interject some of my favorite radio programs of worship and praise to help bring the message to this poor individual. We talked about the concept of God; the meaning of life; the purpose of creation; the prophets and their mission and how God reveals His Will to mankind. We also shared a lot of personal experiences and ideas as well.

    Moved to Our Home

One day I came to know that my friend Mohamed was going to move out of the home he had been sharing with a friend of his and was going to be living in the mosque for a time. I went to my dad and asked him if we could invite Mohamed to come out to our big home in the country and stay there with us. After all, he could share some of the work and some expenses, and he would be right there when we were ready to go to out traveling around. My father agreed and Mohamed moved in.

    Continued Ministry %26amp; Preaching

Of course I still would find time to visit my fellow preachers and evangelists around the state of Texas. One of them lived on the Texas-Mexico border, and another lived near lived the Oklahoma border. One preacher liked to carry a huge wooden cross that was bigger than a car. He would carry it over his shoulder and drag the bottom on the ground and go down the road or freeway hauling these two beams formed in the shape of a cross. People would stop their cars and come over to him and ask him what was going on and he would give them pamphlets and booklets on Christianity.

    Preacher Has Heart Attack

One day my friend with the cross had a heart attack and had to go to the Veteran’s Hospital where he stayed for quite a long while. I used to visit him in the hospital several times a week and I would take Mohamed with me with the hopes that we could all share together in the subject of beliefs and religions. My friend was not very impressed and it was obvious that he did not want to know anything about Islam. Then one day a man who was sharing the room with my friend came rolling into the room in his wheelchair. I went to him and asked him his name and he said that it didn’t matter and when I asked him where he was from he said he was from the planet Jupiter. I thought about what he said and then began to wonder if I was in the cardiac ward or the mental ward.

Man in Wheelchair - Needed the Lord

I knew the man was lonely and depressed and needed someone in his life. So, I began to ‘witness’ to him about the Lord. I read to him out of the book of Jonah in the Old Testament. I shared the story of the prophet Jonah who had been sent by the Lord to call his people to the correct way. Jonah had left his people and escaped by boat to leave his city and head out to sea. A storm came up and the ship almost capsized and the people on board threw Jonah over the side of the ship. A whale came up to the surface and grabbed Jonah, swallowed him and then went down to the bottom of the sea, where he stayed for 3 days and 3 nights. Yet because of God’s Mercy, He caused the whale to rise to the surface and then spit Jonah out to return back home safely to his city of Nineveh. And the idea was that we can’t really run away from our problems because we always know what we have done. And what is more, God also always knows what we have done.

    Catholic Priest

After sharing this story with the man in the wheel chair, he looked up and me and apologized. He told me he was sorry for his rude behavior and that he had experienced some real serious problems recently. Then he said that he wanted to confess something to me. And I said that I was not a Catholic priest and I don’t handle confessions. He replied back to me that he knew that. In fact, he said: “I am a Catholic priest.”

I was shocked. Here I had been trying to preach Christianity to a priest. What in the world was happening here?
Jesus wasnt placed in the shape of a nail was he?
actually, some religious bookstores do carry nails similar to the ones jesus was crucified with on necklaces, bracelets, or just small enough to fit in your pocket. i've also seen them mounted on boards with biblical verses behind them. give it time. eventually it'll catch on just like WWJD
Nails don't signify anything in particular. They could apply to too many things in general. There can be no mistaking the message that the cross conveys. It conjures up vivid images. It is very specific.
I've never really thought about that. But I can't see myself at the alter kneeling before a 20 ft nail.

It would look like something out of Monty Python.
The symbol is not all-important. What counts is the reality behind the symbol.

Both the cross and the fish are well-established symbols, why change?
The cross was chosen because that is what Jesus was nailed to. the cross is made up of two parts---the vertical bean and the horizontal beam. The vertical beam represents man's relationship with God, and the horizontal bean represents man's relationship to the world. The cross therefore represents to totality of man's existence.
Jesus didn't make that choice of symbol to represent Him. The crucifix is a symbol of suffering, a reminder of what Jesus went through for us. That should pretty much explain why nails are not symbolic in this case.

Did God forsake all that is holy and righteous when he nailed himself up on a cross?

for his blood was shed for your sin....or in other words he is to weak to make you like him so he came up with a easy way and nailed himself up on a cross so you can be a sin full person and happy? he worked for one day being beaten and nailed up on a cross and he gets worshiped for it. So he excepted you, a sinner with his blood, cuss he is so weak to change you with his power. So he forsaked all that is holy and righteous when he nailed himself up on a cross to rise again and calls the devil god of this world? For God loves sin and unholiness with the blood of Jesus? For no one is like the Lord and all are sinners cuss God is to weak to make anyone holy....and if he is not weak, who is like the Lord when we are all in prayer asking to be like him?Did God forsake all that is holy and righteous when he nailed himself up on a cross?
Your avatar is ugly. roflcopterDid God forsake all that is holy and righteous when he nailed himself up on a cross?
Jesus became sin for us and bore our sins in His body on the cross, thus fulfilling the Law.

    2 Cor. 5:21, ';He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.';

    1 Peter 2:24, ';and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.';

    Rom. 8:3-4, ';For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh. 4in order that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.';
dark seeker- you have better stop mocking Jesus- because my friend, He came to earth to die for you as well as everyone else. You call Jesus weak for dying on the cross, He died because He loved us and desired to have a personal relationship with us. Sacrificing Himself, and yes, will use the word as THE PERFECT LAMB- paid the price that none of us could pay for our sins. He is too weak just to change us with His power? Jesus is not a magician, He is GOD- and by the way, that power that you are talking about raised Him from the dead. Also He has given us the power to live forever. God does not love sin because of Jesus- God's hatred of sin and love for us, put Jesus on the cross. We can be like Him, when we receive Christ as our Savior. Are you willing?

  • Where is the cross now, which jesus been nailed 2000 years ago ?

in about 326a.C. Santa Helen started a visit to Holy Lands so as to find the Cross.

She knew that after His death, Romans took the cross and threw it to the garbage. She went there and tried to find the place that they threw it.

Then she saw a plant which she recognized as a Holy plant and a statue of Aphrodite(usually when they wanted to hide something from Christians they were building a statue of a God). She told the workers to search there. And she found it. They understood that it was the Holy Cross because they touched a woman that just died that time and she aroused.

I think that the biggest part of the cross is in mount Athos in Greece.

decomposed a long time ago...it was made of wood
The answer to this question lies in another question, which I will now pose: Why do people kiss the Pope's ring?
The cross is not important. What happened on the cross is.
It was left where it was, and probably gone by now.

I am more interested in knowing why you ask this question? what are you getting at? fyi I'm not a Christian, nor other religions
It wasn't a cross. It was a big stake. Nowhere in the bible is written ,that it really was cross, but some people who translate the bible do that in their own way and translate it as a cross. But the stake dont exist anymore ,because it was made of wood

Christians, doesnt this prove that jesus was nailed to an upside-down cross?

He must of been because of his Physical make up.

He got this huge white cross and got a friend to help him..!

The cross is white and he wouldn't accept a black cross because he's racist against African Americans. which is stupid i know.

    but WTF DO I DO?

im freaking out. he did it in the woods where you walk down this obvious trail.

his parents think he slept by his friends house.

but how long will that lie work?

i dont know if he pretended or not but i was there and it looked real.

of course i was like crying and saying no

    but he said ';Jesus gave his life for us so I must do the same for him!';

we're not very close so :/

BUT STILL WTF?! should i tell or just let them eventually find out idk??My friend Chris is so religious he nailed himself to a white cross?!?
Tell him that Jesus already got hurt for us..so we can live happy..not to get hurt. Jesus did not hurt himself !!

And why is he exposing you to his torture anyway..he understood the whole situation as a Theater with spectators.

You can talk or better write to the Pastor of the church to restore the situation for those that misunderstood the message. -ask him to keep confidential-tell him about your ';friend's '; self torture. My friend Chris is so religious he nailed himself to a white cross?!?
i know it stinks to have to do this to a friend...but TELL TELL TELL SOMEONE!!

Explain the information you are aware of and also your concern for the friend. You are doing GOOD not damage.
    FEW THINGS:

    1) go die with him

    2) Go tell his parents

    5) wwelll how long has he been nailed?
I doubt he really did it.

Sounds like he was just goofing around. I wouldn't worry about it.

If he really did it, there's no need to tell his parents because his bleeding hands/feet will give it away.
Time for you to go to bed and stop smoking/drinking/snorting that stuff that makes you sound like and idiot.
