Is it true that dogwood was the wood used to make the cross crist was nailed to it's the first tree to bloom

There is no mention in the Bible of what type of wood was used for the cross. Archaeology reveals that crosses used for crucifixion in that time were mostly made of pine. A dogwood seems not to be a particularly good wood for making a cross, because it is not normally a sturdy tree. We have a dogwood in our yard, and I cannot even imagine this tree being good for making a cross strong enough to hold someone.

The legend of the dogwood says that the tree was changed after the crucifixion so that it would not be strong enough after that to be used for crucifixion. There is no evidence of this. The legend also says that the blooms became formed like crosses thereafter. Again, no evidence.

What seems most likely is that the whole dogwood legend is just that ....a legend. The shape of the blossom as crosses no doubt started the legend. And the story of the dogwood tree in legend is very beautiful and touching, so it stuck.

It is a good metaphor, but most likely it is not the historical wood used.Is it true that dogwood was the wood used to make the cross crist was nailed to it's the first tree to bloom
Don't know if it is fact, but that is what I've heard.

There is a lot of folk lore in the tree and in the blooms.

Don't remember them all. One is that is why the tree never gets big enough to use as wood. It was cursed. Some believe the red in the bloom signifies blood splattered. Is it true that dogwood was the wood used to make the cross crist was nailed to it's the first tree to bloom
Don't know about legends but flowering apricots are the first tree to bloom where I am at.
No way to know since the Bible never mentions what tree Jesus was nailed to. Historically however, Olive wood was used mostly in that area so I doubt it would be a dogwood. Nice legend though :)
Olive and cypress trees were the most common and readily available at the time and place of Jesus' crucifixion. It is likely that one of these was used to make the cross the Jesus was crucified on.

No one really knows for sure, though.
Yes, that is why you will never find one large enough to do it again. Look at the leaves, you will see the blood markings.
