The Jewish leaders feared Jesus's teachings, which in many ways were against the jewish faith. They wanted him killed and brought him in front of Pilate (see RawDeal). Pilate said he had done nothing to warrant death and sent him back to the Jews. The Jews sent Jesus to Herod, a Jew himself, and asked if he would kill Jesus. Herod too refused and sent him back to the Jews. The Jews sent Jesus back to Pilate (see RawDeal) who allowed the Jews to release one prisoner. They chose Barabas!





I hold no ill will toward the Jews. Jesus knew this was his fate. If it weren't for the Romans through demands of the Jews, killing Jesus, the world would not have its savior.

Yes, The Romans WERE in power at that time, however it was Jewish Priests that demanded that Christ be put to death for claiming to be the son of God. Since the population was over 90% Jewish, the Romans knew it was either listen or risk war. historicaly it would make more sense for it to have been the Roman authorities. Jesus told people to give up earthly possesions and follow him...you cannot tax a person that has nothing and no desire to gain anything...so jesus was a tax liability to the roman empire...however few actual records reamin and none of the actual cursifiction other than the bible and that is a religious text and not an actual historical account.

Judea was a part of the Roman Empire. They didn't have the death penalty, at least not crucifixion, but the Empire did. It's analogous to American 'state' authorities in a certain western state recently having an especially notorious case tried in Federal court to make sure the guy was properly lynched. The Judean authorities couldn't crucify Jesus, they didn't have the authority. So they asked the Romans to do it for them. The Romans could have just said no, but to make a political point they agreed to do it. So both the Romans and the Judeans killed Jesus. The Romans actually did the deed, the Judeans asked them to. But do not blame modern Jews no more than modern Italians for this inhuman atrocity against justice and compassion. They weren't around back then. The Judeans are history, destroyed in the revolt in 70 AD and later revolts. Modern Jews are descended from the Jews living outside of Judea at that time. They are not at fault, no more than modern Italians are. Italy today is totally different since the barbarian invasions of the Dark Ages. There's been a lot of Tibur under the bridge. The controversy isnt who nailed him there, but rather who was resonsible for it. One argument is that the jewish sanhedrin and pontius pilot were playing politics with each other to get the romans to perform the deed, since it was illegal for the jews to do it.
