Was Jesus nailed to the cross (crusified) through the palm of his hands or his wrists?

In Roman medicine the wrist was considered part of the hand.Was Jesus nailed to the cross (crusified) through the palm of his hands or his wrists?
Hiya,

From my current observations it would be logical to conclude that it was through his wrists. If you would like more information have a look through www.bibledecoded.com and pass this website to people you know. We are clearly living in the last days as we can see via all the media controvesy about the govenments turning on religion as is evident in the middle east. I hope this answers your questions and I am sure you will find the website interesting.

Kind Regards,

Miss Claire NMS MatthewsWas Jesus nailed to the cross (crusified) through the palm of his hands or his wrists?
the arabic word for hand was from the forearm up to the tip of the hand. in Literally all of the crucifiction remains found the nail had been driven through the wrist.
I think that particular question varies depending on which bible version you read. There has been debate about that because if he was cruxified through the hands it wouldn't hold his upper body weight properly, but even with that said I think most crosses show him with his hands nailed down. So he was probably nailed through the wrists but the palms had other representive meaning, so they showed him with them pinned down instead. But thats only one theory.
Do you have any Idea about how much Iron was worth back then?

The Romans nailed nobody to crosses! They tied them on with cordage that could be reused.

The Romans also never used a ';T'; shaped cross opting instead for the ';X'; shape that could be made out of standard palings that they used to make the barricades around their army camps and lashed together with rope, and propped up into place, much easier and faster with no waste. The Romans excecuted a lot of people on the cross and the Idea of criminals cimbing up ladders to be crucified and of soldiers climbing up there to fasten them on is ridiculous. Would you climb up a ladder to tie somebody who was about to die a horrible death onto a cross, I think I would not risk being pushed over with the ladder, my friend.

As for the evidence of nailing through ankle bones on the only piece of evidence for the concept, I suggest that you take a bone out of the next roast you get and try driving a nail through it. It won't happen, bones are hard and the nail will slip off, bend or it will shatter the bone. Sorry.
his hands. watch passion of the christ, very good movie.
He was tied to the cross by his wrists and ankles and nailed through the hands and feet.
In Islam believers never died. it only appeared to the enemies of jesus that he did, but he was very well alive. please look into the beautiful truth of Islam. Salaam alaikum.
i have always heard about the print of the nails in His hands.but it is liklely that it was the wrist becacuse the hands wouldnt hold up the body with just a nail.
The palm of His hands. Read the different portails of His death in the Gospels. I believe Luke's mentioned that it was the palm of his hands specifically.

Hollyweird (AKA Hollywood) invented the wrist idea.
It could be eithor or. a body cant stay up on its own if its throught the palm so if it was throught the palm he was tied and if its through the wrists he could stay up there with just nails
It wasn't the nails that held Christ on the cross,it was his love for you !

God loves you !
wrists, they wanted to put the nail through the nerve for maximum pain (nice huh?)
It has been scientifically shown that his hands could not have carried his weight, and the nails would have torn their way out. Further, the nails would have broken some bones, and the scriptures point out that no bones would be broken.

His wrists would carry the weight, and it has been shown that, that is actually the way he was killed.

Another interesting point is that he was nailed to a stake and not a cross. Just one pole set into the ground on the hill.
i know the Bible says Jesus hands were pierced. its possible that it was his palms---and he was also tied up. But the Bible mentions nothing about his being tied to the cross. I'm thinking that it was probably his wrists that were pierced by the nails.

Remember, no bones were broken---that was to fulfill prophecy. And a nail through the palm would definitely cause some of the bones in the hand to break.

I also don't believe that Jesus was crucified on a single upright pole, as he was made to carry the cross piece to Golgotha, at least part of the way before the Romans made Simon of Cyrene carry it the rest of the way.

The main thing, I think---is that Jesus was crucified for our sins.
Archaeologists have found both methods as well as using rope to tie them to the scaffold, crosses was NOT used.

As for Jesus without any actual evidence, no one knows.
Purely scientific, wrists. Hands wudnt hold the body up
The wrists of course. The hands would not support the weight such as that. Even the Shroud of Turin shows the wrists.
The common way to do it was through the wrists, if I remember my history correctly, but Jesus was nailed through His palms. Or so I have been told. But I just read some of the other answers, and it made me remember... I did hear (somewhere) that the weight of a person would be too heavy if the nails were through His palms. So perhaps it was His wrists (don't ya just love an indecisive answer!!)

John 20:19-21

19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ';Peace be with you!';

20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

21 Again Jesus said, ';Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.';

John 20:25

25 So the other disciples told him, ';We have seen the Lord!'; But he said to them, ';Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it.';

John 20:27

27 Then he said to Thomas, ';Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.';
Not sure. Read about Roman crucifixions.
could have been either place.
It would have to be thru the wrists. Hand bones can not hold your weight and would have only tore thru.
i have heard the the hands would have been too weak to hold the weight of his body

and other crucifixions were done through the wrist
His wrists.

Studies have been done by a couple of doctors using corpse's to figure this out and every time they nailed some one up. If it was trough the hands the spike always ripped out, but through the wrist it was strong enough to sustain the weight.
Even though I'm only 13, my family told me that Jesus was nailed through the palms of his hands. and I believe that he was too! You should just follow your instincts!!
