to a wooden cross wouldnt this be masakit or very painfull and why do they do that?Passing by my unit today were ppl wih six inch nails fixing themselves to a wooden cross Would this not be ma
It's part of ritual for Holy Thursday. symbolizing or imitating the crucifixion of Our Lord, Jesus Christ who already died on the cross for us.

Apparently, it's not as painful as we perceive it to be. Reason? These religious fanatics go into a trance-like state. Some of them even do it every year during the Lenten season. They must use mediation or yoga. It's a mind over matter technique.

The depth of Christ鈥檚 pain emphasizes the true extent of God鈥檚 love for His creation. Teaching the physiology of Christ鈥檚 crucifixion is a constant reminder of the magnificent demonstration of God鈥檚 love for humanity that was expressed that day in Calvary. This lesson enables me to participate in communion, the remembrance of His sacrifice, with a grateful heart. I am struck every time with the stunning realization that as a flesh and blood human, Jesus felt every ounce of this execution. What greater love than this can a man have for his friends?

WAtch the video of this Filipino tradition on the site below: The crucifixion is an attemp for an atonement of their sins and to show their faith in Christ. It is a tribute and a performance.:

Yes. They do this in the Philippines that I know of, maybe a few other places around the world. It's a reenactment of the crucifixion of Jesus. The men doing this want to show their devotion to Christ.
