I wonder if he was giving them pointers on the tools they were using and was complimenting the type of wood he was on.Where the Romans being ironic by nailing a carpenter to a cross?
No not irony. More like woody.
The real irony is the fact that the Romans hung Jesus, and now the Roman Catholics sort of half-claim to own Christianity.
((((hugs))))Where the Romans being ironic by nailing a carpenter to a cross?
Yes , I read somewhere that they had considered hanging him on a bookshelf but it kept falling over.
no not intentionally but come to think of it it is ironic
He must have been a really bad carpenter. At least the whole ';son of God'; gig worked out for him.
Haha, thats funny.
He was never crucified...... NOR did he rose from the dead! You have to read the proper sources - not what the faked bible says. Look at what even ( Pope Leo X , 1513-1521) said and I quote verbatim:
';';';How well we know what a profitable superstition this fable of Christ has been for us.';';';
..... and the Pope was not drunk when he said that as were some others who said something similar. There you have it from the horse's mouth. You can search it out for yourself.
You wish. On the surface, it appears that they were politically forced by Jewish peer pressure. However, not only did He predict His death throughout His ministry but His mom, Mary, knew who He was from when He was first presented in the temple, that is, the suffering servant predicted in the Book of Isaiah.
Not really. Almost everything was made of wood (or stone) back then.
Now, had they hung Him on a huge fish hook...
ironic or sarcastic?
I doubt that he was a carpenter as you perceive carpenters. There were no trade unions and a skilled carpenter was expected to be able to accomplish a number of other building tasks. I expect he would be called a contractor today.
The irony was there, for sure, but I don't think the Romans planned it that way.
Crucifixion was a tortured death that the Romans reserved for the lowliest, most hated criminals. They got it from China and the Far East, they didn't invent it. Since Jesus was accused of insurrection, that's the death they decreed for Him.
The novel ';The Last Temptation of Christ'; by Nikos Kazantzakis explores that irony somewhat.
No. Crucifixion has always been an extremely popular form of execution. They nailed lots of people to crosses, ironic or not.
What a sense of humor....Good thing he wasn't a lolly pop maker.
