OK so Jesus is god and god is omnipotent - how did being nailed to a cross hurt or kill an omnipotent being?

Whats more to the point--as you point out--death had no meaning for such a creature as the mythalogical jesus. A little thought would thus lead xtians to realize that John 3:16 is a sham and meaningless--for what sacrafice is there for a creature for whom death is meaningless? Kind of like worrying about betting a royal flush--yet it amazes me that christians go ga ga about this passage--not realizing it is the biggest bait and switch in their new testment.OK so Jesus is god and god is omnipotent - how did being nailed to a cross hurt or kill an omnipotent being?
a better question is why that omnipotent being asked God why God had forsaken him when he was on the cross.

Jesus was a Prophet and a human being first and foremost. Even if one holds the belief that he was immaculately conceived, I think that God creating Adam from clay and allowing Zakaria's wife to conceive in her late 90s is much more miraculous than Jesus being born with no father. God can do anything. Jesus was just one of His many miracles.OK so Jesus is god and god is omnipotent - how did being nailed to a cross hurt or kill an omnipotent being?
I'm an atheist, but i'm sorry to say this is not a very logical question, because according to the bible, jesus was a human manifestation of god.

they have this whole theory of why jesus was 'born' to mary when he as god could have actually descended on earth straight from heaven! so yeah.... these silly fundies have some stupid theories on that.
God is spirit. He is not physical body, and cannot be ';killed';.

Jeaus, while having the spirit of God, was also completely human. His body was tortured and killed.

BUT, this was done voluntarily. His death was not sudden and unexpected, it was prophecied and had purpose.

Being completely human, Jesus experienced everything you and I experience -- Hunger, thirst, sadness, happiness, wants, needs, and temptations. When He died on the cross, He KNEW what it meant to be human.

And He gave His life for you, because knowng what it meant to be human AND knowing what it meant ot be God, through His death he offered you the chance to spend your eternity with God.

Jesus knew that your body gets old, and hurts. He knows that we are all tempted into despair. He knows that life is great, but our time is short. And He knows that your soul is eternal.

And He also knows that what we experience here on earth is pale and weak compared to the spendors of Heaven. So His death made it possible for those that believe in Him to be able to exist in Heaven, forever.

The question is, do YOU believe that it is so?

Apparently not.

To you loss . . . .
Jesus had a physical body.

';The Word became flesh,';

';But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.'; Col 1:22

';He is the image of the invisible God.'; Col 1:15
Because Jesus came down to earth in pure human form. And since humans feel pain - it was inevitable that he would as well. He allowed He was always with God, before and after his death. John 1

John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, ';It is finished.'; With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.';

Jesus allowed himself to die, he gave up his spirit willingly.
Jesus is God manifested in the flesh. He had to live as a human man and be tempted by sin the same way we are. Only difference is, he resisted the temptation and lived a sinless before being crucified. When he ascended to heaven, he became Christ, our Savior.
Well, first of all, don't try to think of God in human terms. It just doesn't work.

Jesus Christ was always Christ. He didn't suddenly turn into Christ after the crucifixion. Jesus was fully God and fully man. The man part was crucified. He allowed Himself to suffer and die to atone for the sins of mankind. This death didn't affect Him as God, only as a human being.
Because He let it happen

Jesus could have easily stepped down off the cross and leveled the entire Roman empire.

But the stakes were MUCH higher than that.

One Man(who is God) One Human Life.....to pay the price for everybody whoever lived sin?

Jesus laid down His life, so that anyone who would believe in Him would be saved

Nobody took his life, He gave it.
Because he pay all our human sins .

Rom 6

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?

2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.

6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin鈥?

7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.

8Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.

9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.

10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.

14 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

Slaves to Righteousness

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!

16 Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey鈥攚hether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

17But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.

18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

19 I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.

20 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness.

21 What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!

22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus never claimed divinity. Show me one verse in the Bible where he says that he is God. No where, he says in several verses that his Father is Greater than he is......he is NOTHING without his father....I forgot the references but I am sure. I forgot the exact references, but when he went to his disciples after the SUPPOSED Cricifixion....his followers could not believe it. So he asked them to Handle him and see as he was all flesh and bones. Then he asked them to give him some food to eat, and he ate honeycomb and some broiled meat(forgot what meat). So imagine.....God eating food! And he was a human being as he was all flesh and bones, how can spirit or God have flesh and bones. God is Unique, there is NOTHING like Him. In Islam, we believe that he was one of the Mightiest Messengers of Allah(SWT) and we love Jesus. No Muslim is a Muslim unless he believes in Jesus being one of the Mightiest Messengers of God. If you want to know more or have any questions regarding my post, then contact me. It is my pleasure to try to clear any misconceptions.
Omnipotent means all powerful or able to do anything. If you read the rest of your kjv Bible you would have found out that..

(I said kjv because I found out that some religions have their own Bible. In the kjv and a couple others, talk about people who add (words) or take away (words) from the Bible. I don't remember the verse exactly but God's gonna deal with both by adding to their life that added and taking away from the ones that took away. There gonna wish they'd had nothing to do with the Bible.)

Christ never sinned so if he died, he would have gone to heaven. But when he was on the cross he took our sin upon him. The payment of sin is death/hell...but the gift of God is eternal life/heaven through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Do you remember reading that verse?). So Jesus went to hell and since he is omnipotent he conquered Satan in hell. We have three parts to us: Body, soul and spirit. I'm not sure what the soul part of you is but I think it's our conscience? I don't think that's correct though. When Jesus died on earth, he left his body. Since your spirit is either in heaven or hell his was in hell because he took on sin and if you have even one sin the payment is hell. So in spirit Jesus conquered hell so that we could be with him in heaven. There is no sin in heaven so God had to make a place for it (hell).

Everybody sins. That means everyone goes to hell because the payment of sin is death/hell. But the gift of God is eternal life/heaven through Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus had to take on our sin so that he would go to hell and when he got there he conquered it, making a way for us to go to heaven. That's the gift. Heaven!!! Where there's no sorrow tears or any type of pain! But when someone hands you a gift and it's right in front of you, what do you have to do? Take it! He didn't say, ';You'll only get this gift of heaven if you do 5 Christian things every week of your life.'; Heaven wouldn't be a gift if he made you work for it. Jesus did all the work for you when he died on the cross and conquered hell. All you have to do to be saved from hell is believe that Jesus died on the cross and (rose from the grave/) conquered hell.

My mom read a book or something and I remember her telling me that even witches and worlocks (people who mess around with Satan's power) even they awe at God's power. And God's the one that gave Satan all the power he has so they might as well mess around with God's power or something!!!? What Satan meant for evil, God meant for good- That's Bible! Satan has lied to people so some think that Satan's the good one and God's the bad guy-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a friend like that once!! Scary. Watch out for people who befriend you but don't say very nice things to you about another because if they're talking to the other person, they're not saying nice things and lieing about you! She stole things from me too! I noticed things missing after she left!!! It's wierd that a past friend describes Satan : / !!! I'll be more careful in who I call my friend next time- WIERD.

I'm REALLY SORRY it turned out this long! I HOPE that I helped you!
Every facet of Christian atonement is absurd... including an omnipotent god having to ';die'; like so many criminals did back in the day.
If you read the bible, you'll see that Jesus knew that in order to save us he had to die. Christ was 100% God and 100% man. Crucifixion killed His earthly body, but because he is God, he rose again.
Kind of a catch 22 isn't it?

I guess if I actually believed that nonsense I would just talk in circles for an hour so that you would just walk away nodding your head just to get away from me.
jesus was not omnipotent.since god is jesus and jesus is god, at the time god was not an omnipotent bieng.
Jesus was God ';...manifested in the FLESH....'; He was both human AND divine, so I assure you, He felt almost EVERY SINGLE pain stimulus a person could ever endure. And He did so for US!
1. He was part human (Mary's genes)

2. He allowed it to happen
Jesus became the Christ after He conquered death
Read the Bible and find out---Jesus took on a human body; it was this body that they killed on the cross.
His fleshly body died.
He was also human.

What do you think?
He had to have a human representation to show you that he has died for your sins. Read the bible.
Ruined his manicure? oh by the way you a totally missing the point.
He was in human form
you can't help christian.
exactly, it make no damn sense.
Ask me again when you already believe in the Truth, the Way and the Life!
if jesus is omnipotent does that mean he can create a rock so heavy that god cant lift it?
Obviously it didn't. Doesn't it make you feel guilty though? That is the goal of this myth.
Er, since when has Jesus been god?
