What is the Muslim point of view of the story of Jesus? Was he nailed to the cross?

';And they (disbelievers) plotted (against Jesus), and Allâh planned too. And Allâh is the Best of the planners.

And (remember) when Allâh said: ';O 'Iesa (Jesus)! I will take you and raise you to Myself and clear you [of the forged statement that 'Iesa (Jesus) is Allâh's son] of those who disbelieve, and I will make those who follow you (Monotheists, who worship none but Allâh) superior to those who disbelieve till the Day of Resurrection.

Then you will return to Me and I will judge between you in the matters in which you used to dispute.';

';As to those who disbelieve, I will punish them with a severe torment in this world and in the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers.'; And as for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh) and do righteous good deeds, Allâh will pay them their reward in full. And Allâh does not like the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers).

This is what We recite to you (O Muhammad, peace be upon him) of the Verses and the Wise Reminder (i.e. the Qur'ân).

Verily, the likeness of 'Iesa (Jesus) before Allâh is the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust, then (He) said to him: ';Be!'; - and he was. (This is) the truth from your Lord, so be not of those who doubt.';

[The Noble Qur’ân, 3:54-60]

';And because of their saying (in boast), ';We killed Messiah 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), the Messenger of Allâh,'; - but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but the resemblance of 'Iesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man), and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture.

For surely; they killed him not [i.e. 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)]: But Allâh raised him (Jesus) up (with his body and soul) unto Himself (and he is in the heavens). And Allâh is Ever All-Powerful, All-Wise.';

[The Noble Qur’ân, Chapter An-Nisâ’ (no.4), Verse 157-158]

I am Muslim. i know from the Qura'n that Jesus was neither killed nor crucified. (crucifixion means PUTTING TO DEATH by nailing to the cross, not just nailing to the cross).and the Quran states clearly that Neither was he killed,nor crucified, it was only made to appear so.

i don't know whether it is written in the Quran whether he was nailed to the cross or not but it is obvious that he wasnt put to death(wasn't crucified)...For me, being a Muslim, this verse is sufficient to make me believe that Jesus was neither killed nor crucified...

but in bible, it is written that Jesus was nailed on the cross. even the bible states that Jesus was not crucified but i dont know why the christians say that....bible says that when the disciples of Jesus saw Jesus alive after hearing that he was crucified they became afraid. so Jesus in order to prove to them that he was not crucified tells them ';Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have'; (Luke 24:39).furhter in the next verses Jesus says that do you have anything to eat and they give him broiled fish and honey comb and he eats it.

i just wanna tell the christians what is Jesus trying to prove by telling his disciples see my hand,i have flesh and bones and give me something to eat. was he proving that he was crucified or was he proving that he was not cucified and that he was not a spirit and was a living human with flesh bones who could eat. the bible says that Jesus was nailed to the cross but didnt die on the cross (wasnt crucified)...so both the Quran and the bible say that Jesus was neither killed nor crucified. as far as nailing to the cross is concerned, i don't knoiw about that in Islamic perspective but thats for sure, Jesus was neither killed nor crucified.What is the Muslim point of view of the story of Jesus? Was he nailed to the cross?
The Third Level of Life is that of Idris and Jesus (May Allah grant them peace) which, being removed from the requirements of humanity, enters an angelic life and acquires a luminous fineness. Quite simply, Idris and Jesus are present in the heavens with their earthly bodies, which have the subtlety of bodies from the World of Similitudes and the luminosity of star-like bodies. The Hadith the meaning of which is, “At the end of time, Jesus (Upon whom be peace) will come and will act in accordance with the Shari’a of Muhammed (PBUH),” indicates that at the end of time the religion of Christianity will be purified and divest itself of superstition in the face of the current of unbelief and atheism born of Naturalist philosophy, and will be transformed into Islam. At this point, just as the collective personality of Christianity will kill the fearsome collective personality of irreligion with the sword of heavenly Revelation, so too, representing the collective personality of Christianity, Jesus (Upon whom be peace) will kill the Dajjal, who represents the collective personality of irreligion, that is, he will kill atheistic thought.

No

It says he did not die on the cross nor was he crucified.

and

it was made to look like he was on the cross.

Soooooooooo.....he wasn't on the cross at all, but people thought it was him.

There is no islamic basis to this...but the most popular theory is that judas was transfigured to look like jesus and if you look at the new testament...no one really knows what happened to judas. There are two completely different stories about what happened to him.
No....

Hebrews 5:7 ';Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared.'; These words clearly show when Jesus was praying strongly to God, God granted him his request. The words ';heard in that he feared'; (Hebrews 5:7) mean that God granted him what he requested. So the above verse shows when Jesus asked of God to ';let this cup pass from'; (Matthew 26:39) him, God responded to his prayer and saved him from death or crucifixion.
The very nature of Jesus is so special, that God compares the uniqueness of his creation to that of the first man and prophet, Adam.

[Lo! The likeness of Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He created him of dust, then He said unto him: Be! and he is.] (Aal `Imran 3:59)

The story of Jesus never really ends in the Qur’an, as we are told that Jesus was not killed, but that rather, God raised his beloved prophet up to him.

[Behold! Allah said: “O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject faith, to the Day of Resurrection: Then shall ye all return unto me, and I will judge between you of the matters wherein ye dispute.

As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help.”

As to those who believe and work righteousness, Allah will pay them (in full) their reward; but Allah loveth not those who do wrong.] (Aal `Imran 3:53-55)

The Qur’an also points out that Jesus was neither killed nor crucified. Speaking of the Children of Israel, Allah faults their accusations against Mary as well as their claim that they killed Jesus.

[That they rejected Faith; that they uttered against Mary a grave false charge;

And because of their saying: We slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allah's messenger - they slew him not nor crucified him, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! Those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture; they slew him not for certain.

Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.] (An-Nisaa’ 4:156-158)

The Qur’an confirms that Jesus was raised up by God, and the Prophet Muhammad reassured us that Jesus will be sent down to earth once again before the Day of Judgment. In a hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah, the Prophet Muhammad said: “By the One in Whose hand is my self, definitely the son of Maryam will soon descend among you as a just judge, and he will break the cross, kill the pig, and abolish the jizyah (tribute), and wealth will be so abundant that no one will accept it, until a single prostration will be better than the world and everything in it.” (Al-Bukhari)

Muslims do not believe that Jesus died on the cross:

That they said (in boast), ';We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah;'; but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow for of a surety they killed him not. (The Qur'an (Yusuf Ali tr), Surah 4:157)

In making this statement, Muhammad demonstrates that does not understand the implications of the Abrahamic covenant, nor does he accept the words of earlier prophets: See Isaiah chapter 53, Psalm 22 and John Chapter 1. This claim also flies in the face of all four gospels, each of which spent about a quarter of their content describing the passion, death and resurrection of Christ. It also contradicts nearly all of the numerous letters written by the disciples which form the bulk of the New Testament, all of which proclaim the death and resurrection of Christ and reflect on the meaning of this event.

By contradicting previous scripture, Muhammad demonstrates that he is a false prophet. Muslims rationalize this by claiming that earlier scripture is corrupted. This claim has conclusively been refuted as a specious attempt to justify the numerous contradictions between Muhammad's words and thousands of years of scriptural precedent: http://calculatedrisk.blogtownhall.com/2…

Muhammad rejects that God could be made flesh and bear the sins of the world on his shoulders, as if Muhammad had any right to dictate what God could and could not do.
They said it right, Prophet Issa (AS) was brought to heaven and Allah (SWT) replaced him with a look-alike so the people thought that it was Prophet Issa (AS) that they killed but they were mistaken.

@ One of the answerer up there (you know who you are)

In all of the religions, there is a word called ';FAITH'; means you believe it even if you didn't actually see it. And since we're already in the topic so how did Paul (the self proclaimed apostle) wrote a lot of stories about Jesus in the Bible when he didn't actually lived in Jesus' life time?
Peace be upon you!

Firstly, I would like to say that Muslims respect and revere Jesus (as). They consider him one of the greatest of God’s messengers to mankind. The Qur’an confirms his virgin birth, and a chapter of the Qur’an is entitled ‘Maryam’ (Mary). The Qur’an describes the birth of Jesus (as) as follows:

-Remember when the angels said: ‘O Mary, God gives you good news of a word from Him, who name is the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, revered in this world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near to God. He will speak to the people from his cradle and as a man, and he is of the righteous’. She said: ‘My Lord, how can I have a child when no mortal has touched me?’ He said: ‘So it will be. God creates what He wills. If He decrees a thing, He says to it only, ‘Be!’ and it is’. (Qur’an 3:45-47)

Jesus (as) was born miraculously by the command of God which had brought Adam (as) into being without a father.

God has stated:

-The case of Jesus with God is like the case of Adam. He created him from dust, and then He said to him ‘Be!’ and he came into being. (Qur’an 3:59)

Muslims believe that Jesus (as) was not crucified. It was the plan of Jesus’ (as) enemies to crucify him; But God saved him and raised him up to Him. And the likeness of Jesus (as) was put over another man. Jesus’ (as) took this man and crucified him, thinking that he was Jesus (as).

God has stated:

-They said: ‘We killed the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of God’. They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but the likeness of him was put on another man and they killed that man.(Qur’an 4:157)
How would Mohammad know was he there? No. The Qur'an is not very reliable in this as historians would say (not written by an eye-witness). I take this with apinch of salt.

EDIT

Baby Mika Sayed. You don't know history do you. Don't you know that last year was 2000 Years since the birth of Paul and so Paul was alive when Jesus was about. I belive in an eye witness account written closer to the date than something written 700 years later and based on no eye witnesses. I believe in hard fact over the Qur'an.
Jesus was not nailed to the cross. His best friend or so was a look-a like of him so they were switched and Jesus rose to the heavens. So the look-alike was nailed onto the cross.
We Muslims believe that the Holy Prophet Jesus (pbuh) was not crucified

Here's the potent evidence

Salaam
They don't believe he is the son of God. That is why the Judeo Christian God is not the same as Allah no matter what popular media would like you to hear.
And here come the christians with their ';muslim version of story is wrong'; lol

Jesus didn't die, he was changed with someone else on the cross
A young man was switched to look like Jesus, and he sacrificed himself so that he and Jesus could be mates in Heaven.
Jesus (PBUH) did not die on the cross. He was lifted to the heavens and replaced by a look-a-like. It's in the Qur'an.
Allah switcched Jesus with another man, so jesus didnt die
The majority of Muslims believe that Jesus was NOT nailed. It was made to appear so to the disbelievers.

However, my understanding is NOT the same.

The Majority of Muslims derive their views from the Hadith %26amp; Sunnat. Which are NOT divine sources. They are a synonym to the Jewish ';Mishnah %26amp; Gemarah';.

The Quran gives a different perspective.

From the Quran it appears that :

1- Jesus is dead as far as our world is concerned.

2- He died the way the pious people die. That is, that his soul departed MUCH earlier to his enemies could convict him and harm him

3- Thus in essence, the enemies and conspirators, crucified an EMPTY body. As the soul had departed MUCH earlier. They thought that they killed the Messiah. And thus believed so.

But in Actual he was saved from them by God, much earlier.
