Good Friday - Boy, 15 of age, nailed to cross....?

Here's something you probably missed on Jewish media outlets, CNN, Fox News, BBC, etc. which regularly show Shi鈥檌te Muslims鈥?mourning during Ashura.

A 15-year-old boy has been crucified in the Philipines today in a gory ritual to mark the death of Jesus Christ.

Dozens of Filipinos, including the boy and an 18-year-old girl, were nailed to crosses and scores more whipped their backs into a bloody pulp as the country's devout Roman Catholics marked Good Friday.

In the small village of Cutud, about 80 km (50 miles) north of Manila, men cried out as nails the size of pencils were driven into their hands and feet before they were hoisted up in the scorching heat. Nineteen were to go through the process.

I 100% agree with lavendar...They didn't put THIS on the news because its not Muslims doing this. If it was, it would be ALL over the news and people would call this ';oppression'; of religion or something. Gosh- it really annoys me that people don't think THIS IS WIERD!

i hate american news/media. they're son of beeppssss....u know wht i mean? thats why i never READ THEIR STUPID NEWSPAPERS OR WATCH THE DANG NEWS! i trust BRITISH NEWSPAPERS more than AMERICAN ones....so true- my teacher once talked about this how he also reads British newspapers because he finds out MORE ABOUT AMERICAN NEWS from them than from Newsday or New York Times (AND WE live in america- how sad is that!)Good Friday - Boy, 15 of age, nailed to cross....?
It's nothing new - as long as people are happy mutilating themselves in the name of religion then let them be.
Pretty whack. But as long as its voluntary, whatever.
They do this every year in the Philippines, even though the Catholic clergy always tell them not to.

.
And? They do it every year, it makes them feel closer to God. They way the spikes are driven in doesnt really hurt that much, they scream for dramatic effect.
The reason it didn't make the news is because the people volunteered to be crucified.
There are extreme beliefs of all kinds.

This is one.
Where I come from, they call that ';child abuse';...
This happens every year and is a ritual that is part of a tradition that goes back a long time. The local Catholic church does not condone it but cannot stop it. This year it warned the participants to get an anti- tetanus injection before the event.
Scary.

I hope it's voluntary-maybe those people feel like it brings them closer to God.

You know, how Catholics give up stuff for Lent, other religions have fasts...it's all a way of experiencing Jesus's sacrifices.

Guess we'll never know until we try...who wants to go first!
thats been going on for decades...where ya been?

old news and much ado about nothing...
The country's dominant Catholic Church disapproves of the crucifixions and flagellations as a misrepresentation of the faith.
they do it every year.
This has been going on for a very long time and not just in the Philippines. Honestly, I think it takes things far over the edge of reason. You can honor the crucifixion without having to be crucified.

Me: Buddhist
Of course no one wants to know about it or comment about it unless it's about Muslims. They jump at any opportunity to slate Islam but if it's any other religion, it's gets swept under the carpet.
how is this a good friday?

that is sad
They do this every year.

Whatever.
What did someone finally knock on your trailer door and wake you up? That's been going on for years...you should get out more...
